Journal Description

Journal of Digital Islamicate and Humanities (DIH) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal that focuses on the integration of digital technologies and computational methodologies within Islamicate studies. The journal provides an interdisciplinary scholarly platform for examining Islamicate societies, cultures, texts, and intellectual traditions from classical to contemporary periods through digital humanities approaches. DIH seeks to promote innovative research while encouraging critical engagement with methodological, theoretical, and ethical issues arising from digital scholarship.

Aims & Scope

The primary aim of Journal of Digital Islamicate and Humanities is to disseminate high-quality and original research that applies digital tools, computational techniques, and emerging technologies to humanities-based inquiries in Islamicate studies. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary contributions that combine humanities perspectives with digital methodologies and encourages reflective discussions on the epistemological and ethical implications of digital research. The scope of the journal includes digital philology and manuscript studies encompassing computational text analysis, digital paleography, codicology, and manuscript transmission networks; text mining and corpus linguistics applied to Arabic, Persian, Ottoman Turkish, Urdu, and other Islamicate languages; spatial and network analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and social or intellectual network analysis; digital art history and archaeology through three-dimensional modeling of artifacts and architecture as well as computational analysis of visual culture; computational history and sociology employing quantitative analysis of historical and social data related to Islamicate societies; digital pedagogy and public humanities initiatives that enhance teaching, learning, and public engagement; and ethical studies of digital research addressing issues of data provenance, algorithmic bias, and digital representation in Islamicate contexts.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Journal of Digital Islamicate and Humanities undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process. Each submission is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers who possess expertise in both digital humanities methodologies and the relevant field of Islamicate studies to ensure academic quality, originality, and scholarly relevance.

Publication Frequency

Journal of Digital Islamicate and Humanities is published twice a year, with issues released in April and October.
